I have used Intermundial as my travel insurance provider many times over the years.
Although I have written a bit about the travel insurance I have never properly reviewed or written anything in the past about this excellent insurance company and how reliable Intermundial is.
So today I want to share my Opinion on Intermundial travel insurance.
Who are Intermundial?
interworld is a company specialized in the tourism sector, founded in Spain in 1994.
Its headquarters are located in Madrid and, along with another office in this city, it currently has offices in the Spanish towns of Barcelona, Bilbao, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, La Coruña, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Benidorm, as well as in seven countries: United Kingdom, France, Italy, Portugal, Poland, Brazil and Mexico.
Currently, Intermundial is the official insurer of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) and, in addition, it has representation in the Tourism Board.
Now cover people from more than 130 countries, they offer medical and evacuation coverage, emergency assistance 24 hours a day and coverage for a wide range of adventure activities.
There are many travel insurance companies, each with their pros and cons.
interworld It's made for people who are always on the go, and it covers all the essentials you want in travel insurance..
Intermundial Seguros Opinions Is it worth it?
Let's go to the important point. Perhaps you are wondering if it is worth taking out travel insurance with Intermundial or if they are a reliable and trustworthy company.
In the network you can find opinions of Intermundial insurance, customers who have contracted their services and give their opinion about the quality of the travel insurance and all kinds of details about their experience with Intermundial.
Here You can see Intermundial insurance reviews on Trustpilot.
Here You can see Intermundial insurance opinions on its same website.
From our point of view and After having used Intermundial travel insurance on many occasions, we can affirm that it is one of the best travel insurance that exists, without a doubt.
What do Intermundial's travel insurance policies include?
In the following images, the prices correspond according to the plan and the coverage that you wish to contract.
The policy coverage numbers shown in the screenshots below are in EUR.
MEDICAL COVERAGE
interworld offers coverage of up to 300,000 euros, with TotalTravel Mini coverage, although its more expensive policies will cover you for higher amounts.
High coverage limits can be important if you do really risky activities that could cause serious injury.
Or if you get very, very, very sick. (That being said, it seems to me that 300,000 euros of coverage are more than enough, in general).
Your policies also provide coverage for medical expenses and those related to medical evacuation or repatriation if you are accidentally injured.
For example, if you are hiking in the woods and you break your leg, your policy should cover your evacuation to the hospital, and interworld it does.
If your emergency justifies it, you can also be sent to your country of origin (although not all injuries or emergencies warrant it).
EMERGENCY DENTAL TREATMENT
interworld too covers emergency dental treatment for accidental injuries that occur during the trip.
This includes things like an unexpected infection, a broken tooth, or an injury to the mouth or jaw in an accident.
It doesn't include any optional dental work, like checkups or cleanings (or things that can wait until you go home).
NON-MEDICAL EMERGENCY EVACUATION
Intermundial also offers coverage for transportation expenses in the event of civil or political disturbances in the country you are visiting.
This also applies to natural disasters, or if you are expelled from a country.
NOTE: If you are a US citizen, some states are not covered by this warranty. You will need to refer to your policy for details.
ACCIDENTAL DEATH INSURANCE. Compensation in case of death with the Intermundial insurance
These policies also pay if you lose your sight or a hand, a foot or a limb, etc. during your trip.
In addition, they cover the costs of repatriating your body (ie, sending your body home).
Intermundial travel insurance coverage in case of theft or loss of luggage
This coverage reimburses you for luggage and personal belongings that are lost, stolen or damaged during the trip.
Some plans also reimburse you for additional expenses if your baggage is delayed more than a certain period, such as 12 hours.
CANCELLATION, INTERRUPTION OR DELAY OF THE TRIP with Intermundial
Trip cancellation insurance reimburses you for expenses paid in advance if your tour operator goes bankrupt, if you have to cancel the trip because you or a family member become sick or injured, or if there is a death in the family, bad weather or a natural disaster.
Trip interruption insurance covers you if you have to interrupt your vacation because you become sick or injured, or have to return home due to a death in the family (however, it has to be your immediate family).
The travel delay coverage covers your expenses if you are delayed during a trip, like when a flight is canceled due to bad weather.
Coverage covers additional expenses, on a one-time basis, if you are delayed to or from your trip for six or more hours due to a defined peril (as explained in the policy).

WHAT IS NOT COVERED
If you're reckless, you probably won't be covered. Here's a list:
- Accidents suffered while participating in extreme adventure activities, such as hang gliding, paragliding or bungee jumping (unless you pay a supplement).
- Alcohol or drug related incidents.
- Carelessness in handling your belongings and luggage.
- You will not be reimbursed if the problem was caused by your recklessness (the definition of "recklessness" depends on the company).
- Pre-existing diseases or general reviews. For example, if you have diabetes and need to buy more insulin, you will not be covered. If you want to go see a doctor for a general check-up, you will not be covered either.
- Lost or stolen money
- Your theft coverage will not cover you if you have left something unattended.
- If civil unrest makes your destination unsafe, but your government hasn't called an evacuation, you're probably out of luck either.
Intermundial Travel Insurance and COVID-19
Intermundial Travel Insurance covers some medical expenses when it comes to COVID. This is what they say:
These benefits may include emergency medical coverage, emergency medical evacuation, trip delay and trip interruption if you contract COVID-19 while traveling. You may also be entitled to trip cancellation coverage for non-refundable travel expenses paid in advance, such as flights, hotels, and excursions.
Be sure to read the details of your plan as there are many caveats and exemptions and you'll want your provider to clarify everything for you
Intermundial is one of the few companies in the world that offers this.
Should you trust opinions?
Like all insurance companies, Intermundial had problems with COVID-19. Pandemics were not covered by ANY insurance company and many travelers found out the hard way.
That sparked an online backlash and a lot of negative reviews.
This is the truth: no one saw it coming and companies were inundated with millions of customers requesting refunds. This overwhelmed the entire industry. Everyone was affected.
→ Bali travel insurance – Everything you need to know
No wonder they made some mistakes.
Fortunately, they are making many technical and systemic improvements to ensure that people get paid faster, that they can file claims online more easily (even if you just create a guest account), and that customer service is more manageable. speed.
I had a long talk with them about it and they are acknowledging their problems
Consumers use review sites to complain, not praise. It's almost always about how some company has screwed them up.
Although sometimes that is the case (no company is perfect 100% of the time, and it's not just shady companies; I've had friends have a terrible time trying to get a refund of Expedia, for example), most of the time it's because someone didn't read the fine print.
But, as you can see above, there are a lot of happy customers. I continue to trust the company and after raising service issues with them due to COVID, I believe they are coming out stronger than ever.
PROS AND CONS Intermundial Travel Insurance
Pros:
Affordable prices
great coverage
You can extend your policy online
You can claim online while you're away
Fast service, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Cons:
Does not cover those 69 and older (66 if you are from Canada)
Their online system can be a bit confusing to understand
Limited equipment/electronics coverage (Explorer plan covers up to €3,000 total and €1,500 per item, while Standard plan only covers €1,000 total and €500 per item).
The cost of Intermundial policies varies depending on your age, destinations and place of origin, since, being a global brand, they use different subscribers in each country.
With Intermundial Seguros, the policies are cheaper per month the longer they are.
Due to COVID-19, you can only buy policies up to 180 days. As a general rule, a one-month policy costs around EUR 120.
Although more expensive than some of the other companies, they also include coverage (and service) that others don't.
My experience with Intermundial Seguros
In addition to buying a policy online (even if you're already traveling), you can also extend your insurance policy online.
Also, as someone who is always on the go and hopping from country to country, the ability to simply take photos of all my documents and receipts and upload them is hugely beneficial.
The entire claim process can be done online.
I have had to use Interworld Travel Insurance services twice. The first time was when South African Airlines lost my luggage on the way back from Africa.
Knowing that I had coverage, I called Intermundial Seguro de Viaje to ask what I could do.
They told me I would have to wait to see if the airline would refund me first.
If the airline did not reimburse me within 90 days, they would. (Travel insurance consists in indemnifying you, not in assuring you a benefit)
The process was relatively easy. I filled out an online form listing what was in my suitcase and its estimated value.
I presented the documents showing that I had requested the refund from the airline. Then I waited.
Luckily the airline paid me and I didn't need Interworld Travel Insurance but I learned through this process that if you have all your documents and proof, Intermundial Seguro de Viaje makes filing a claim very easy.
On another occasion, in Argentina, I was suffering from anxiety and worried that it was something else. It felt like someone was stepping on my chest.
I entered the portal, got the number of the call center and called the hotline.
They took my data and symptoms and gave me a list of recommended ER doctors.
They were helpful, fast and got me a doctor right away.
I was very happy with the service and I know that if something goes really wrong, they act quickly.
Although I have never had to make a claim that required a refund, several readers have. Here are their comments on the process:
BE SURE TO READ YOUR POLICY
All insurance companies have terrible reviews on the internet.
This is often because the traveler didn't read the policy text and assumed something was covered when it wasn't.
It is very, very important that read the requirements to make a claim.
In this sense, you should read your entire policy. Oh really. It's terrible, but reading it is the only way to know what is covered and what is not.
If you have any doubts, call Intermundial. They are very helpful in explaining their policies. Local numbers are on their website.
Before embarking on any trip, I take a photo of my bag and its contents, to have a photo with the date of my trip and my things.
If something is stolen from you, you will have to file a report with the police, as the companies will ask you for it as proof.
If you get sick, save all paperwork and receipts. The more information and documents you have, the easier it will be to get reimbursed.
Making a claim is a long, detailed and sometimes slow process. This is by no means an exhaustive guide to making a claim, but if you keep the above points in mind you will be able to avoid the most common pitfalls.
Also, if your claim is denied, be sure to follow up.
Ask for more information and resubmit your documents. Insurance companies are a for-profit industry.
Be firm (but respectful) in your review request. Be sure to dot the i's. Typically, a denied claim is due to a technical error, so double and triple check your documents before submitting.
interworld is one of the best insurance companies around, especially if you are looking for backpacking or long-term travel insurance.
It is a company by and for travelers, recommended by tons of other travel companies and writers, and much more affordable than other insurance companies.
Travel insurance only costs a few euros a day (the price of your policy will vary depending on the duration and where you're from) and, for that price, it's a no-brainer.
While there are plenty of cheaper travel insurance companies out there, the devil is always in the fine print and they often have low coverage limits, won't let you renew along the way, or have terrible reimbursement rates.
Insurance is something you get for what you pay for. Pay a few more cents a day to be covered
Many people don't buy travel insurance when they travel because they think: “Nothing is going to happen to me. I'll be fine"
And that is the goal of insurance.
Nobody is Superman. You're healthy until you're not. Insurance covers travel delays and problems, accidents, healthcare, theft and much more.
I have been on the road for over fifteen years and I can tell you that accidents happen. It's good to always have a company that has your back.
I have never regretted my decision to take out insurance with Intermundial Seguros.
I hope this post from Intermundial insurance opinions has been useful to you.
FAQ and Frequently Asked Questions Interworld Travel Insurance
Is travel insurance mandatory?
Spanish residents need travel insurance to protect themselves from emergencies that may arise during their travels, ie medical emergencies, lost luggage, loss of money, etc.
Although it is not a legal requirement, it is always advisable to take out insurance when traveling outside of Spain.
Citizens of any country in South America, the same criteria apply.
Is travel insurance just health insurance?
No, it is much more than that.
While there is a medical component for sudden illness and accidental injury, it can also cover all kinds of additional incidents, such as:
– Trip cancellation
– Lost/damaged/stolen possessions
– Emergency evacuation
– Expatriation in case of natural disaster
– trip interruption
Travel insurance is for general emergencies, not just medical.
Is travel insurance similar to health insurance?
Can I go see a doctor whenever I want?
Travel insurance is not a substitute for health insurance.
It's there only for unexpected emergencies, not for regular checkups.
And if you need to be sent home due to a health emergency, it will be your regular health coverage that will kick in once you return to your home country.
For that reason, you'll need to make sure you have travel insurance (for when you're abroad) and regular health cover (in case you're sent home with an injury).
Can I get treatment for a disease I already have?
As a general rule, most travel insurance plans do not cover pre-existing conditions.
If you get sick on the way, travel insurance is there for you.
If you need medication for an ongoing chronic illness or medical condition that you knew about before you bought the policy, you may be out of luck.
Also, if you get sick under a policy and then extend it or start a new policy, most insurers will consider your illness a pre-existing condition and won't cover it under your new policy.
In short, pre-existing conditions are generally not covered unless you find a specific plan that provides coverage for them.
Will my travel insurance be sent home if I get injured or sick?
In most circumstances, travel insurance will not repatriate you to your home country.
Simply put, travel insurance is there to ensure that you get the medical assistance you need in the event of an emergency.
Usually that means sending you to the nearest hospital and with good conditions, you don't need to be sent home.
Whoa, whoa! Interworld insurance? Has anyone had any experience with them? Tell me tell me!
Well look, I have had experience with Intermundial insurance and the truth is that they have disappointed me quite a bit. Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired and the procedures are a nightmare. I would recommend looking for other more reliable options. Luck!
I don't know whether to trust Intermundial, I have heard mixed opinions. Has anyone had positive experiences?
How interesting! I would like to know if anyone has had any experience with Intermundial insurance.
The truth is that I am a little skeptical about Intermundial insurance. Has anyone had any experience with them?
