Collectors Lionel and Kim Logchies created the Moco Museum (modern and contemporary) in Amsterdam in 2016. The original museum was so successful that they decided to open a second location in Barcelona in 2021.
The Spanish branch is located in the Palacio Cervelló, on Carrer de Montcada, in the Born district of the city. The remains of an old building dating from the 15th century served as the basis for this former 16th-century palace.
It was used as the residence of the noble Cervelló family until the 18th century, when the Giudices, an influential family of Genoese merchants, settled there.
It was the headquarters of the Maeght Gallery between 1974 and 2012 and of the Gaspar Foundation from 2015 to 2017.
Renovation works have breathed new life into this building, which is once again full of art.
